Place Visited

Home

One of the side benefits of volunteering for international humanitarian projects is to have the opportunity to visit some of the great natural and man-made wonders of the world.  Unfortunately, only one of the original "Seven Wonders" stood the test of time to this day (make a guess before you check your guess by clicking here).

Listed below are some of the natural, historic ("forgotten"), and modern wonders of the world suggested by Prof. Alaa K. Ashmawy of the University of So. Florida, with some additions I made (in brown font).  The ones that I visited and would like to recommend to you are market with * (up to a maximum of 5).  Obviously, you may disagree with my recommendations and comments.  You may also want to check out "The World Heritage List" of natural, cultural, and mixed properties designated by UNESCO.  Many of the wonders listed below are on the "50 Places to Visit before you die" list voted by BBC readers.

If you are interested in finding more details about these wonders, one of the good free resources available on the Internet is the Country Studies/Area Handbook published by the Library of Congress.
